Suhas is a partner in the Firm’s Bangalore office since 2001. He graduated with an Honours degree in Arts and Law [B.A., LLB (Hons.)] from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, the premier law school in the country. He was admitted to the Bar in 1998. He is the lead external counsel for several Fortune 1000 companies on their legal needs in India.
Suhas does substantial work as part of the firm’s Technology Law Practice. He represents some of the largest hardware and software companies in the world with regard to their operations in India. In particular, he has been responsible for assisting clients in setting up very large software, back office and BPO operations in India. In this regard, in addition to advising regularly on general corporate laws, he has gained expertise on a host of issues including telecom regulations, employment law, IP protection, data protection and privacy laws, etc.
Suhas has strong experience in mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments in the information technology industry. He has been involved in numerous acquisitions and investments in this sector and his work has included structuring, due diligence, advice on regulatory and anti-trust approvals, contract preparation and negotiations.
Suhas is very active in the aviation sector and assists several aviation manufacturers on sales to Indian entities (both in the private and public sectors including defense related sales/procurement). He has advised several clients including those in the FMCG sector on Indian advertising, marketing and product labeling requirements. He also has experience in the Banking and Insurance industry and has advised banks on term loan financing and insurance companies on introduction of title insurance in India.
He also oversees a substantial portion of the commercial and consumer litigation work and handles large real estate projects of clients in the Bangalore office. In addition to Bangalore (and the State of Karnataka), Suhas has handled large real estate projects all over the country including in the cities of Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Coimbatore, etc.
He has spoken at various conferences including of the American Bar Association at Houston, USA on ‘Legal Aspects of Outsourcing to India’. He has previously co-authored the (India) ‘Chapter of Doing Business Around the World’ published by the World Bank.
He is listed in the 2009 and 2010 Editions of the Guide to the World’s Leading Technology, Media and Telecommunication Lawyers. He is also listed in the 2011 Chambers Asia Pacific Corporate/M&A section.
